April 17th from 1-4pm we will be hosting a high jump mini-camp for interested junior high athletes and coaches from Timbercrest and Leota Junior High. We’ll cover as much as we can about the high jump event in this time but special attention will be given to the approach and takeoff.

All grade levels and experience levels are invited though this is intended to help athletes who are already a little familiar with the high jump. For those ‘just trying it out’, or who are very new to this event or track in general, I suggest that you practice with your junior high coaches and teammates a little first. I may be able to host another session later in the season.

The cost is free. Anyone willing can make a donation right here on woodinvilletrack.com by clicking on the Donate button in the upper right corner of the page. Donations directly support the Woodinville Track and Field Booster club and are tax deductible. Funds are used by the team for equipment, transportation, coaches education and lots of other things.

If you have any questions please contact coachgreen@woodinvilletrack.com

A note about the weather: Spring weather is always a factor, I may have to cancel if there is a threat of very severe weather. Light rain is no problem but heavy rain makes practicing the high jump very difficult for a number of reasons. Keep an eye on this post for last minute updates.

Here a little of the info I sent to the Junior High coaches:

= Falcon High Jump Mini-Camp =

When & Where:
April 17 1-4pm
South end of the WHS track (in the high jump area)

Who:
Leota and Timbercrest jumpers and coaches are invited to participate. Parents are invited to observe. Due to WIAA coaching and recruiting guidelines I am not able to offer this to other Northshore Junior High athletes – only those who attend schools which normally feed WHS.

What to Bring:
Running shoes and spikes (if you have them), sweatpants and sweatshirt (wear shorts under if weather permits), water bottle, etc.

About Me:
My name is Eric Green, I’m a 1996 WHS Grad (went to Leota). I started coaching the high jump at Bellingham High in 2001. After completing my degree and 4 years on the Western Track Team I moved back to the area and started coaching at WHS in 2002. I have had at least one athlete competing at the state championships in all but 2 seasons that I have coached. Several of those were podium finishers and 2 were state champions in the high jump. Both the boys and girls WHS high jump school records have been broken since 2002.

RSVP:

The new season starts March 1st. Get your spikes, get your sweats, and get ready it will be here before you know it!

Athletic participation forms are available in the office and need to be filled out and returned before you can turn out.

Conditioning programs are already underway and if you have been a regular a these workouts we’d like to say great job and keep it up. There are lots of benefits to starting early and its never too late! If you are still thinking about it contact Coach Sires or Coach Vandermyn for more info or meet on the group on the track Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
