  • Week 3 Update

This is a big week with our first meet on Thursday! PLEASE read this email in its entirety – there are a lot of important details.

*Our t-shirt fundraiser ends tonight!  Last chance!  https://drivensportswear.chipply.com/wvtffund/

*Today is also the last day for 10% off running shoes and/or spikes at Road Runner Sports in Bellevue.  Mention WHS track and field at check out to receive your discount.

*Students will be released from class at 2:10pm on Thursday.  Meet in the bus loop at 2:20pm for departure.  If you are not riding the bus, plan to leave school at the same time.  We are asking everyone to be at NCHS by 3pm.

*Given the new district policy with transportation to athletic competition within the NSD, we only have 2 buses going to NCHS on Thursday.  If you did not fill out the form last week stating you need a ride on the bus, we cannot guarantee space on the bus.  See your email for a link to the Google sheet of those who responded (The Google sheet is not being publicly shared here for privacy).  If your name is not on that list as needing a ride on the bus, please try to make other arrangements for a ride or contact me ASAP if you need a ride on the bus and we will try to accommodate.

*Athletes – check in with your specialty coach on Monday or Tuesday about what events you want to compete in on Thursday.  Failure to check in could result in being left off the competition roster.  Also a reminder that you must have attended 7 practices to compete.

*We will be passing out uniforms Monday and Tuesday (students check your email later today for details).  If you purchased your own, we should have those by Tuesday.

*Picture Day on Friday! Plan to wear your jersey and uniform shorts for the picture.

  • Week 2 Update

What a fantastic start to the season! As we look ahead to week 2, there are a few items I want everyone to be aware of:

    1. Our long-awaited parent meeting is on Tuesday night! (6:30 PM at WHS) We will meet in the Theater.
    2. Please remember to contact your specialty coach if you will be absent. This should be done at least 24 hours in advance, and you should include both Coach Debby and me. Remember that 3 unexcused absences could result in removal from the team.
    3. For our first meet at North Creek (3/19), we have been asked to verify how many students need transportation. Students are now allowed to transport themselves to district meets, though athletes must arrive on time, and parking may be limited. Please fill out this form to give us an idea of who would utilize the school-provided transportation. Here is the form: https://forms.gle/m5GZ5Xf3kqQbjgDP7

While last week the weather gave us a little bit of everything, this week looks particularly gloomy. On top of this, you are coming off your first week of training. Many of you are probably sore, and without a meet this week, motivation can be hard. It is so much easier to find an excuse, especially when it is raining (which might happen this week…). The second week is where the real work begins. You are not just training to become stronger in your events; you are also training to develop perseverance that you will benefit from long after high school. We have a week and a half until our first competition! What you do this week will decide your level of success next week, next month, and at the end of the season. So, let’s make it a good week.
